Our sponsored team, FC Bruno’s Magpies, sits top of the table after two games in this season’s Gibraltar Division 2. We renewed our ties with the club at the beginning of the season hoping for a promotion winning campaign. With just 9 teams in the league this season (down from 12 last year) there are just 16 games to play.

In the first game, we threw away a 3-0 lead to allow Boca Juniors to fight their way back to a 3-3 draw. The second game was nearly as interesting, except it didn’t happen! In a new rule for the current season, each team must have three ‘Home Grown Players’ (“HGP”) in the match day squad of which one must be on the pitch at all times. The opposition in this instance had had their first game overturned after an enquiry where they were adjudged to have breached the HGP rule. A few hours ahead of our game they had to concede that they could not field an eligible squad so we were awarded a 3-0 win. That was enough to send us top of the table based on goals scored.

The next game is on Sunday 9th October at 18.30 v FC Olympique who are second in the table, also on four points.
